We were having so much fun, momma forgot to get a lot of pictures...but Ms. Laura was nice enough to snap this one of Momma and I.

Daily Lily - Jan. 29

What an exciting day!!! Momma signed me up for swim lessons at the YMCA! Everyone there was really nice. I got to meet a lifeguard and check out the pool

This is the pool. It is inside of the building and heated too. Look how BIG it is!

After Mom signed me up for lessons we had lunch with a friend....Look at me sitting in a high chair like a big girl! This is my first time sitting in a high chair....I think I did a good job!

It was warm and sunny here today so there were LOTS of people walking around the outdoor mall. I love to people watch. Mom says I get that from her....

Daily Lily - Jan. 28

I gave "The Daily Lily" Facebook fans an opportunity to ask Lily and I some questions and I would answer them on the blog. Here are some of the questions.

1. Why did you decide to use cloth diapers?

I decided to cloth diaper for a variety of reasons. First reason was to save money. I saw how EXPENSIVE disposable diapers were over time and I wondered how in the world Jeff and I would afford it....especially if we were to live on one income for a while. Second reason is the chemicals in disposable diapers. I use to work at a daycare and I change a LOT of diapers. Kids would have bleeding rashes sometimes from disposables. Parents would try a dozen different brands before they found "the one" that would not affect their child. I also wondered about the gel beads that are in disposable diapers, what chemicals are in those? Do I feel comfortable having those chemicals next to my childs most sensitive parts? I know I have sensitive skin and so does my husband...I just did not want to deal with the problems if they were to occur.

Third, I wanted to reduce waste....disposable diapers create a lot of trash...a lot of SMELLY trash!

Fourth....the novelty of cloth. They come in cute prints and colors...not a lot of people use cloth and it is a great conversation topic. I sometimes have a hard time meeting new people and making new friends and I knew when I became a mom, my social crowd would change a bit....I knew I would be a natural parent and practice natural parenting. It just seemed right to choose cloth diapers. It is SO EASY!

2. Why do you feel it is important to teach Lily sign language?

I am not so much trying to teach Lily sign language as much as I am teaching her a way to communicate with me. A child Lily's age cannot Say what they need. They simply cry. That is their only way of communicating their needs. I wanted to be able to meet Lily's needs before she was a crying mess. I know a lot of moms can distiguish what type of cry is for what need, and I am no different. I know what a hungry cry sounds like, what a sleepy cry sounds like...but by the time Lily is crying because she is hungry....she is STARVING! :-) If she is able to sign to me that she is hungry, tired, need a diaper change, ect., before she is so uncomfortable that she can't stand it, the better mood she will be in.

I also somehow believe that if Lily is able to communicate with me in a calm way NOW, then she won't feel like she has to yell or act out to get my attention and communicate with me later.

I think the "Baby Signing Time" program is great. It has songs, shows the words, shows the signs and has other little children doing the sign.

Do you think Lily will ever have a brother or sister?

Not any time soon. Jeff and I have not really talked about it at length. Right now we are just enjoying Lily and learning about being parents to her.

4. What do you think Lily will be when she grows up?

I hope she is strong, intellegent, kind and happy. :-)

5. Where do you get Lily's cute clothes and does she seem to have a preference?

I get Lily's clothes from EVERYWHERE! Consignment shops, online, custom made, some of them I make, a lot of Lily's clothes were gifts....we have very generous friends and family. Lily does not really care much about what she wears....it has to be comfortable though and not too fussy to put on. She LOVES things with snaps, but only because she likes to undo the snaps. I think she likes the sound. :-)

If some of you in blog land have questions for me...feel free to post a comment. I love to hear feedback!

Mom - Month 6

I have been a mother for 6 months now and I have to say....I am having a great time! I have learned SO MUCH in such a short time and I look forward to learning even more.

Here are some random bullets about being a mom for 6 months:

- Lily is getting SO BIG. When people say "it goes by so fast." They are NOT LYING! I feel like it was just yesterday she was like 6lb little bundle and now she is 14.8 pounds and 27 inches long.

-Lily is 38th percentile in weight and 90th percentile in height...long and lean. It is hard to find normal pants these days...

-lily can sit up by herself and can roll over with no problems.

-I am still exclusively breastfeeding and Lily eats every 3 to 4 hours, most days. It has had it's ups and downs at this point, but it is still super easy and rewarding. My doctor and lactation consultant are very proud of me. :-)

- Lily has tried a couple of foods , but is NO WHERE NEAR having meals yet. So far she has had cooked carrots, bread, oatmeal, sweet potatoe and banana. She HATES the baby oatmeal and was super offended by the taste. Her favorites right now are cooked carrots. I cook them here at home until they are mushy and mix them with a little breast milk. She loves it. I have only given her pinches of bread, but she seems to like it too..although, I am not ready to feed her too much of it yet.

-Lily can now drink from a soft-spout sippy cup. She drinks water from it really well, but is a bit skeptical of milk out of it....it takes her about an hour to drink 4oz of milk from the sippy. She just prefers to nurse. She STILL will not take a bottle at all. She also will not take a pacifier, but now that she is teething she will gladly chew on it.

-I am still cloth diapering her round the clock now and it is also super easy and I love it. I have meet so many people in the cloth diapering community and have made so many friends. I use the old school flat diapers, prefolds, fitteds and the newer kinds of pocket and all in one diapers. We also use a lot of wool...you will notice Lily wears a lot of hand knitted wool pants. Not only do they keep her warm, but they work as a diaper cover as wool is water resistant and antimicrobial. I am very proud of myself for sticking with it...so many people said I would stop within a few weeks..

-Jeff is still gone, but will be home in 2 weeks!!! I am beyond excited and ready for our little family to be together again.

-I feel so blessed.

Cheers,
Kira

I moved up in age group in my Mommy and me class...I am the youngest there and boy can you tell! The closest baby to my age is 8 months old. I kind of sat back and watched all the other babies crawl around and some could even walk. I'm not so sure about this new class....

I took a LOOOOOOOONG nap when momma and I got home and when I woke up I was chewing on EVERYTHING! Momma gave me one of my fancy new spoons fresh out of the refrigerator..it was nice.

Mom and I braved the cold today to run some errands.

Mommy busted out the cold weather cover for my carseat...boy is it warm and cozy

Cuddle Love and I were so content...

It was so nice I decided to have a little nap....

Mommy got a space heater for the living room so that it is a little warmer for me to play. It is AWESOME. I am much happier today.

Also, I said "Momma" yesterday for the first time and now I say it ALL the time...it makes mommy so happy.

Daily Lily - Jan. 7

What an exciting day!

I was sitting down with my toys this morning...

Watching Baby Signing Time...

....when there was a knock at the door and the strange man in brown gave mommy a BIG box. Mommy said it was from Daddy! Momma opened the box, it was full of bright pink pieces...what could it be?? It took Momma forever to put it together, so I took a nap and when I got up it was THIS FABULOUS THING!!!! An exersaucer!!

First I had to check it out....see how everything worked, but once I got the hang of it, I LOVED it!

Thank you Daddy! You're the BEST! XOXOXOXOX

Daily Lily - Jan. 6

Hope you did not miss me too much yesterday! My blog was not working.

I went to the doctor today for my 5 month check up!

First I had to take off my clothes and get up on the big table so that the nurse could measure me.

Then they took me to another table and the nurse weighed me.

I am 14.8lbs and 27inches long!!!! WHOA! I am growing so much! I am 38th percentile in weight and 90th percentile in height...for those who don't know that means I weigh more then 38 percent of children my age who were born the same weight as me and 90 percent taller then children my age who were the same weight as me at birth.

Dr. Grooms was REALLY surprised and pleased at how much I have grown. :-)

I got two shots too...no pictures of that nonsense, but I only cried a little bit this time...

Here I am dressed and ready to go. Just like nothing happened..

my doctor visit was not too bad, but boy was I happy to get home to my toys!
